Our story
We're Beth & Steve
Two Midwesterners who found their reset at the edge of Lake Superior — and hope to inspire others to find their own shoreline reset.
How It Started
We're Beth and Steve — born and raised on Midwest farms, where hard work isn't just a value, it's an identity. Work-life balance wasn't something we talked about growing up. You worked. You provided. You kept going. That's just how it was done.
Between the two of us, we raised four kids — and our free time was their time. Softball, football, hockey, golf, band, youth group, FCCLA, theatre. We loved every minute of it. But even then, we weren't really slowing down. We were just trading one kind of busy for another.
Somewhere along the way, we started noticing the younger generation doing something we never had — actually resting. Taking time off without guilt. Setting boundaries. Recharging on purpose. We thought they had it backwards. Turns out, they had it figured out.
Then the kids grew up. The house got quiet. And we looked at each other and realized we had never once learned how to slow down.
It started with a weekend trip up North. We walked the Lake Superior shoreline. We picked up rocks. Something about the sound of the water, the weight of a smooth stone in your hand, the way the lake just keeps going — it did something to us. We came home lighter than we'd left.
We became rockhounds. And then we became something else too — people who finally understood what it meant to rest.
The Reset
We noticed something about ourselves and the people around us. The younger generations seemed to have figured out work-life balance in a way we never had. They took vacations without guilt. They set boundaries. They rested on purpose.
The lake shore became our teacher. Every trip up to Lake Superior was a reset — a chance to restore our souls, refresh our perspective, and remember that we are more than what we produce. We wanted to share that feeling with everyone else who needed it.
That's what Shoreline Reset is. Not a brand. A feeling. An invitation. Come to the lake. Slow down. Let it do what it does.
The Rocks
We get it — not everyone loves seeing painted rocks in a natural environment, and we respect that. But when our kids were little, painting rocks and hiding them was fun as well as finding them hidden at the park, on a trail, or at the campground. Something to bring a smile to others and a way to make memories together. Have you ever found a painted rock? It's like finding a treasure. For us, it always made us Smile.
Now that the kids are grown, Beth has found a new way to carry that same spirit. One afternoon on the shore — while Steve walked the water's edge — she started engraving rocks she'd collected. A word. A simple message. Something small to bring back home as a reminder of the place that restores her.
She's not an artist — she's a nurse. The engravings are unpolished and slightly imperfect. But that's kind of the point. They're not meant to be precious. They're meant to be real. Little things that bring a little joy, and a little piece of the shoreline, back home with you.
Rest
We believe rest is not laziness. It is wisdom. The shore taught us that.
Restore
Nature restores what the world depletes. We come back to the lake to fill back up.
Refresh
Every trip to the shore is a chance to start again — lighter, clearer, more ourselves.
